Hope Ministries provides food, clothing, shelter and life recovery support for men, women and children in need. Information about our programs and services is below.

Meals

We provide three free meals every day of the year to anyone in the community at our Hope Café — 1310 6th Avenue. We do not require evidence of financial need. (Haga clic para español)

Monday-Saturday

Breakfast: 7 a.m.
Lunch: 12 p.m.
Dinner: 5 p.m.

Sunday

Breakfast: 8 a.m.
Lunch: 1:30 p.m.
Dinner: 5 p.m.

Shelter

For men: We provide free shelter for men at our Bethel Mission (1310 6th Avenue). Call (515) 244-5445 for more information.

For women and children: Our Hope Center for Women and Children offers limited short-term residential services. Call (515) 264-0144 for more information.

Residential Life Recovery Programs

For men: Our one-year life recovery program for men begins at our Bethel Mission shelter and continues at our Door of Faith recovery center. Call (515) 244-5445 for more information.

For women and children: Our life recovery program for women and children lasts up to two years at our Hope Center for Women and Children. Call (515) 264-0144 for more information.

Clothing, Furniture, Household Goods and More

Hope Ministries Thrift sells reasonably priced new and used clothing, household goods, furniture and more at two locations:

Visit our Drop-in Center

Our Hope Ministries Drop-in Center is open 8 a.m. to noon every Monday through Friday and is located at 1310 6th Avenue in Des Moines (in the lower level of our Bethel Mission). No appointment needed. Men, women, families—all are welcome! Our outreach case manager can assist you with a variety of housing, employment and other needs plus refer you to essential resources. We also have community shower facilities available. Services include:

  • Veteran’s Assistance
  • Christ-centered Counseling
  • Assistance with employment applications and resumes
  • Help with housing applications
  • Assistance with obtaining documents (photo ID, social security card, birth certificate, etc.)

Downloadable “Get Help & Hope” Cards

People often ask us what they should do if they encounter someone experiencing homeless, hunger or other struggles on a street corner or elsewhere. We invite you to download and print our “Get Help & Hope” cards to hand out. These print out four to a page on letter-size paper.
